Should I buy ChatGPT credits or an instant Codex reset?
If you only need a bridge until your normal reset and want leftover value later, credits can be more flexible. An instant reset immediately restores eligible Work/Codex allowance, but it also changes the weekly cycle.
What matters
- Purchased credits are used after included allowance is exhausted and can remain available for later eligible use.
- A purchased instant reset refreshes the applicable Work/Codex allowance immediately.
- OpenAI says a purchased reset brings the weekly allowance forward; the new weekly period starts with the first Work/Codex request after the reset.
What this means in practice
If your normal weekly reset is only a few days away, compare the reset price with the smallest credit pack available to your account. Credits may leave you with a balance for a future heavy week, while a reset gives you a fresh allowance immediately.
