How many hours of Codex work can 500 credits buy?
There is no reliable fixed number of hours. Codex credit use depends on the model, task size, context, output, agents and speed mode. The best estimate comes from measuring one hour of your own normal work.
What matters
- OpenAI currently says a typical Codex task using GPT-6.1 Sol may consume about 2–15 credits.
- Credit consumption is token-based for supported Work/Codex activity and varies substantially by model.
- Fast mode costs more credits than Standard mode for the same model.
What this means in practice
At 2–15 credits per typical Sol task, 500 credits corresponds very roughly to 33–250 typical tasks—not 33–250 hours. For sustained, heavy website/repository work, I would budget conservatively, then measure your first hour and divide 500 by that actual burn rate. If one representative hour uses 80 credits, for example, 500 credits would be about 6.25 similar hours.
