Do ChatGPT referral rewards expire?
Yes, referral rewards may expire according to the offer. OpenAI specifically says banked rate-limit resets generally must be used within the stated redemption period; the exact terms for credit rewards can differ.
What matters
- Reward amount, cap, cooldown, expiration and redemption window vary by promotion.
- Banked rate-limit resets have their own expiration rules and are not the same as credit balances.
- The specific in-product referral offer is the place to check the current terms.
What this means in practice
If your referral reward is usage credits rather than a reset, do not assume the purchased-credit 12-month rule applies unless the offer or credit terms say so. Record the offer terms when you receive the reward.
